VAR still needs to prove itself, says Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe

Posted on 25 ottobre 2019in Uncategorized

Eddie Howe states VAR is to prove itself in the aftermath of Mike Riley’s admission that there were four wrong decisions.
Two of those four incidents mentioned by referees’ main Riley included Bournemouth. Youri Tielemans’ clear postage on Callum Wilson was first only one, and another was that the decision not to award Manchester City a punishment when Jefferson Lerma stood the foot of David Silva in the Bournemouth box.
Howe is glad that there is transparency round the decisions, but says he’s”still on the fence” around VAR as a concept.
“It’s interesting that they have come out and stated that there has been errors made, that I think will be really a positive thing,” Howe said at Friday’s press conference.
“I have no problem with them recognizing coming out, I think that’s a positive thing for the game and for VAR.
“I always stated at the start of the season there is going to be mistakes, there’s going to be more twists and turns from the use of it and also how the grading system operates and what they alter.
“The Tielemans handle – for me that should have been a red card. I will probably keep quiet on the other one!”
Asked if he was a lover of VAR’s effect, Howe stated:”I am still on the fence. It ought to show itself that it is great for the sport ”
Bournemouth face Everton reside a match which could observe the return of midfielder Lewis Cook, on Super Sunday. The 22-year-old has been out of action since December with knee ligament damage, but showcased in a 6-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers Under-21s on Tuesday night.
Howe stated he’ll create a”late call” on if Cook will perform against the Toffees, however that his return to fitness – along with Lloyd Kelly and Simon Francis coming in training – has had a favorable influence on the squad.
“This weekend, I am not convinced, it may come a bit too early for me personally,” said Howe on Cook. “He’s trained now for a sustained time period and looked really great.
“He has had a match now that’s a very big step forward for him so he’s getting closer and closer. On whether he is involved in this match or not, I will have to earn a call that is late.
“He’s a major player . Another player that is really, very popular a very excellent participant rated by everybody.
“Naturally once you get a huge player like this back to the team it gives everyone an additional spring in their step. The group’s potency is really important.
“Everyone builds confidence levels when they see, not only Lewis however Simon Francis and Lloyd Kelly straight in. The group looks a lot fitter so it has been a great week in that regard.”
